Metaphor
[Abstract ≡ Known] → Current way of thinking.
[Abstract ≡ New] → New way of thinking?
A visual diagrammatic system for systematically exploring new ways of thinking by comparing metaphorical equivalences. Using simple logical notation—[Abstract ≡ Known] versus [Abstract ≡ New]—the framework allows rapid prototyping of conceptual shifts. Demonstrated through historical examples from organic photochemistry (heat → light), cellular biology (channel → canal), and problem-solving approaches (puzzle → chemical solution), showing how metaphor drives scientific breakthroughs and shapes what becomes possible to imagine.
Developed as preparation for BaseCamp 2025.
Poster as Conversation
A four-poster series exploring how academic poster sessions could be redesigned for interdisciplinary creative communities. Beginning with systematic deconstruction of traditional conference formats, the work develops new frameworks for metaphorical thinking—including bidirectional approaches using abstract scientific diagrams as concrete domains—and culminates in a contentless template designed purely for community dialogue. Demonstrates progression from critique through innovation to practical implementation, establishing seven rules that transform posters from completed storylines into conversational tools while exploring how communication structures can shape collaborative discovery.
